A view of the Market Place, Pickering during the Second World War. The busy market place has a variety of shops and services including Fred Pickup's butcher's shop where Polish soldiers, who came here during the Second World War, are standing.
In front of the church are The Vaults. This building was used in the wartime as an air-raid shelter. It was later demolished in 1958. Caroline Milson adds by email (2004):
[on the family group to the right of the photograph]
The little girl holding her mother's hand is my mum, Dorothy Nichols (now Hallsworth)
Her mother was Eva Nichols [my grandmother].
The lady pushing the pram next to my mum is my Great-Gran Nichols. In the pram is my aunt, Margaret Nichols (now Pickering).

All orders will be dispatched within 3 working days.
