Mr Septimus Liddle (aged 72) from Pot Bank Farm, Beckwithshaw, standing in the snow. Eric Stark of Ripon reports [2003]: I knew this gentleman, as did many others, as 'Old Sep' (short for Septimus)....He came to this Dale, I believe, at or about the time of World War I. He was a wonderful sheep man - he could walk into a field and tell the life history of every sheep. I seem to remember his recording a talk for the BBC on the old practice (I think called 'larding sheep') of rubbing fat into the fleece to keep the sheep warm. Photography by Bertram Unné.
