Lewis Outing emails [2006/7]:This was my grandfather's sheep-skin works, located on the Waterside, Knaresborough. His name was James Mason. After his death in 1956, the business was run by my mother until its closure in 1965.Jack Mason is pictured here stretching a skin on a wooden frame. This would take approximately half an hour for each skin. It was the scraping that took the most time. The skins would then be put outside, stretched onto the wooden frame, to dry. This could take up to 2 days, depending on the size of the skin, until the skin was completely dry. The skins were taken in under cover at the end of each working day.
All orders will be dispatched within 3 working days.
