The market cross in Kirkby Malzeard has an interesting history. In the 1860's the original cross was pulled down by a neighbour who despised the cross. Residents of the village protested but he refused to build a new cross. The residents in there anger dislodged some of the stones from his house forcing it to be demolished. The house was rebuilt and stands as punishment as the closest house to the cross.
