Roger Strickland was a member of a Yorkshire branch of an eminent Westmorland family. Strickland spent his youth in France but returned to England in 1718 and eventually settled in Richmond. Using extracts from record held at the North Yorkshire county Record Office, the archives at Windsor Castle and The National Archives, the author builds a detailed picture of the day to day life of a Jacobite gentleman.
